Doorstep's transfer core is the open-source LocalSend protocol (Apache-2.0), so it speaks the same wire protocol and stays compatible. Doorstep adds what that layer does not do on its own: automatic device discovery, one-tap trust levels that reconnect by themselves, always-on receiving, drop zones with per-device routing, and a live folder browser.
